Initiated through research at Cairo’s historic Qalawun Hospital, Healing Devices emerged from Huda Lutfi’s encounter with medieval medicinal manuscripts and the inventions of the 12th-century engineer Ismail al-Jazari.

Inspired by The Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices, the series reimagines speculative instruments of emotional and psychological repair.

Through assemblages of cut paper, collage, geometric forms, layered texts, and metallic surfaces, Lutfi creates imagined therapeutic mechanisms that navigate states of anxiety, healing, and resilience.

Developed during periods of uncertainty and introspection, the series offers a contemplative meditation on healing as an ongoing process of care, creativity, and reconstruction.
